Jada Curry, Mayor of the Village of Lynwood, is seeking a second term as mayor.
During her first term, Curry said she has learned a lot and grown a lot. She described it as a very interesting four years. She had to learn everything from scratch, because when she first took office, there were no files on the computers.
Curry and her administration have been able to successfully staff all of the departments within the Village and take a hard look at the Village’s financials. This included determining which items needed to be focused on first, then building out a strategic plan to get the Village completely out of debt over an extended period of time.
There has also been a focus on economic development in the Village of Lynwood. Dollar General and Dunkin Donuts now have locations there, as well as a dispensary, a car wash and a grocery store. Having a grocery store in the community has been beneficial to the residents. An equestrian university is also coming.
“We’ve been working very hard to make sure that as we focus on all of the things that we need to fix, that we get the Village ready for the future, as well,” she said.
Curry said the future of Lynwood looks very bright. She said she sees Lynwood as a place where there are businesses that service the residents. Homes continue to be built in the Village, which means there are more families coming into town, as well as a change in culture and in the school system, in a good and positive way. She said she will continue to work toward financial stability and economic development for the Village and make sure the community stays connected.
Curry said she believes she has done the work and the residents should vote to re-elect her. Within her first term, she said she has gotten more done than her predecessor, who was in office for 16 years. She said serving as mayor for a Village like Lynwood, a person has to prepare for the Village’s future.
“I think the residents see that I have a heart for Lynwood. I have a heart for them. They see evidence of my work through the businesses that have come to town. They see evidence of my work through the community events. They see evidence of my work through public safety,” she said.
When it comes to public safety, the Village of Lynwood has 24-hour staffing in its Fire Department and more police officers on the street, as well as ambulances to service the residents in the Village, as well as in neighboring communities.
Curry has received good feedback from the residents. She said a lot of them were excited to have a new mayor come into office. She said she also has been able to win over a significant amount of the residents who loved the former mayor. She said the residents love the community connections, through movies in the park and concerts in the park. Last year, Lynwood Fest was expanded with more than 2,000 people and a change of venue to accommodate the amount of people.
Curry said the residents are excited about the future and what is to come. She said she is honored to serve the Village of Lynwood as Mayor and she is looking forward to growing and getting more accomplished in her second term.
