The event is being held as part of the 16th Ward’s 6th Annual Appreciation Luncheon for its Veterans and Seniors.

"There has always been an enormous respect and acknowledgement to our veterans from the Englewood community. We felt as part of our sixth year hosting this event that we should honor the bravery of specific veterans who have served in previous wars protecting the borders of our nation” says Alderman Coleman

This year 100 year old Vergia Jones, along with nine other military veterans and community leaders will be honored for the brave sacrifice to the military and to their community respectively.

Alderman Coleman adds, "To have this powerful 100 year old African American female as one of our honorees is so amazing. Mother Vergia Jones means so much to all of us.This speaks to the enormous history and impact that black women have had on our neighborhoods. This will be a true Black History moment."
