The credits can be applied to five education pathways offered at Governors State University

CHICAGO — Governors State University (GovState) and City Colleges of Chicago announced a new transfer agreement for students earning an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) with a focus in Cannabis Studies from Olive-Harvey College’s Urban Agriculture Department. Students in this pathway now have the option to transfer all their credits to Governors State University.

“Governors State University is proud to partner with Olive-Harvey College on their Urban Agriculture Applied Science program," said President Cheryl Green. “This pathway allows more students to graduate with a four-year degree faster, while learning about the importance of the business industry, medicinal value, and the related disciplines such as political science, sociology and psychology. This is an exciting time for the communities that GovState serves to create career and entrepreneurial opportunities for economic growth in the state of Illinois.”

Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice

Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies

Bachelor's Degree in Political Science

Bachelor's Degree in Business & Applied Sciences

“Our institutions share a commitment to offering an exceptional education that prepares students to succeed in a global and competitive economy, so I’m thrilled that we are partnering with GovState to serve more people on the south side of Chicago and across the state,” said Dr. Kimberly Hollingsworth, president of Olive-Harvey College. “As the cannabis industry continues to grow at a rapid pace, learning the business and science of cannabis, and earning a higher degree in it will place students at the forefront of this emerging industry and with a higher earning potential.”

The completion of the Cannabis Studies pathway at Olive-Harvey College prepares individuals to work in the various scientific aspects of the cannabis industry as well as the legal, compliance, cultivation, advocacy, and business aspects of the industry. Individuals will have the opportunity to advance directly into the industry or a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. This program is housed within the Urban Agriculture Department, which emphasizes sustainable agricultural practices and innovative urban farming techniques, aligning well with the holistic approach required for the cannabis industry.
