Exciting Recap: “Think Safe” Community Forum – A Resounding Success!

On October 3rd, Country Club Hills, IL – The energy was palpable at Southwood Middle School as the Country Club Hills School District 160 proudly hosted its inaugural “Think Safe” district-wide community forum in recognition of National Bullying Awareness Month. This essential event brought together parents, students, staff and community members in a united front against bullying and social media threats, emphasizing the importance of safety in our children's lives.

“In honor of National Bullying Prevention Month and in response to recent events, we addressed social media threats with gravity,” stated Jaqualene Doss, Board President of Country Club Hills School District 160. The forum was not just a conversation; it was a powerful declaration of the district’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a secure environment for every child.

Attendees delved into crucial topics such as School Safety, Mental Health, Safe Communities, and effective strategies for Combating Bullying. Dr. Duane Meighan, Superintendent of Country Club Hills School District 160, highlighted the forum’s significance, stating, “The ‘Think Safe’ community forum was driven by recent tragic events and serves as a reminder that we must be diligent and proactive in protecting our students. My dedicated school board and I are resolute in our mission to work hand-in-hand with our community to prioritize safety for all.”

The evening was filled with inspiration and engagement, spotlighting an impressive lineup of distinguished guest speakers. Attendees had the privilege of hearing from Jaqualene Doss, Board President of Country Club Hills School District 160; Dr. Duane Meighan, Superintendent of the district; and Deputy Chief Officer Anthony Prater from the local police department. Additionally, we were honored to have Gerald Bloodsaw from Chase Bank, Charese Munoz, Founder of Lunacorn Unicorn, Shon Bailey from LNB Safety, Dwone Brinson, Representative from Chicago Sky, Tamisha Bufford, Director of Student Services, and Shagmond Lowery of MyPal Schools. Each of these speakers brought valuable insights and perspectives that enriched the event and reinforced our commitment to creating a safe and supportive community for our children.

Families enjoyed delightful soul food, participated in vibrant parent raffles, and fun-filled children’s activities such as face painting and coloring. The event even included a cozy movie screening for the kids, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone!
