(Springfield, IL) The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (ILBCF), under the dynamic leadership of Executive Director Tiffany D. Hightower, continues to champion equity and empowerment for African American communities across Illinois. With a steadfast commitment to addressing systemic challenges and fostering transformative change, the ILBCF is proud to highlight its significant accomplishments and ongoing initiatives designed to uplift and support the Black community.
Since 2002, the ILBCF has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships to deserving students, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to education and youth empowerment. This year, the foundation continues its tradition of support, with the scholarship application deadline set for May 31st. Students across Illinois are encouraged to apply for this invaluable opportunity to further their education and contribute to their communities.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the ILBCF thrives on the generosity of its sponsors and donors. These contributions are essential in sustaining the foundation's programs and initiatives, ensuring that the ILBCF can continue to make a meaningful impact. Donations support a wide range of activities, from scholarships to policy summits, all aimed at addressing critical needs within the Black community. Extensive research and input from stakeholders have identified key areas of need within the African American community.
“Our mission is to dismantle systemic barriers and address the critical needs of the Black community. By providing essential resources, equitable opportunities, and fostering community engagement, we are paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future,” said Executive Director Tiffany D. Hightower.
The ILBCF is focused on providing resources tailored to these communities, ensuring equitable access to information and opportunities, and working to decrease the wealth gap among Black Illinoisans. These efforts are vital in creating a more just and equitable society. The ILBCF has effectively utilized panels to bring about transformative change by pinpointing the needs of underserved African Americans.
This year, the foundation will host its annual Policy Summit on October 4th and 5th at the Swissotel in Chicago. This event serves as a pivotal platform for exploring the foundation's pillars and initiatives in depth. The Policy Summit is a comprehensive resource offering insights into healthcare and human services. It features a diverse array of experts, including doctors, Telehealth professionals, and research analysts. These sessions provide attendees with valuable information and strategies to address pressing issues within the community.
This summer, the ILBCF will release an eight-minute documentary titled "The Soul of Food," highlighting Pembroke, IL, one of Illinois' largest historically Black agricultural towns. This documentary underscores the rich cultural and historical significance of Pembroke, celebrating its contributions to the state's heritage.
