Hundreds to attend upcoming Fair in hopes for jobs and job training
Chicago, IL – May 22, 2024 – The Chicago Center for Arts and Technology (CHICAT) in partnership with the Chicago Urban League is excited to announce the return of the Vocational Training and Trades Apprenticeship Fair. This annual event, now in its third iteration, will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the CHICAT building located at 1701 W. 13th Street, Chicago, IL.
This fair is dedicated to connecting individuals from across the city with over 25 leading organizations that offer vocational training and apprenticeship programs in various trades. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a myriad of career pathways in skilled trades, meet industry professionals, and gain insights from trade experts.
The event is structured to guide attendees through discovering the next steps in their career development, whether they are high school students, individuals looking to shift careers, or those interested in advancing in their current path. Participants can also take advantage of complimentary professional services, including resume writing assistance and professional headshot photography.
"Through collaborative events like these, we aim to empower our community members by providing them direct access to educational and career opportunities in skilled trades, which are viable and rewarding career options," said Lisa Moultrie, Executive Director at CHICAT.
Latisha Brandon, Program Manager Urban Youth Career Academy with the Chicago Urban League, expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing partnership: "We are proud to collaborate with CHICAT for the third semi-annual year to host this transformative event. It is crucial for our community to recognize the value and potential of vocational careers. In recent years, Chicago has seen a substantial rise in the demand for skilled tradespeople, with the sector becoming one of the largest employment fields in the city. The fair not only highlights these opportunities but also addresses common barriers to entry by providing resources.
The fair is open and free to all who wish to attend. Numerous opportunities are available at no cost, and some programs even offer stipends.
