MATTESON FIRST RESPONDERS FROM YESTERDAY'S TRAIN DERAILMENT TO RECEIVE HERO’S WELCOME FROM 4000 RESIDENTS
OVER 4000 TO GATHER FOR ANNUAL MATTESON MUSIC FEST TO PROMOTE PEACE, RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND ADVOCATE LOVE
(Matteson, Ill)-Sheila Chalmers-Currin- Village President of Matteson, IL – will lead over 4000 Matteson and southland residents in an Independence Day concert and celebration dedicated to the Matteson First Responders who successfully performed their duties on yesterday during the CN Railroad crisis.
Matteson Fire and police officials will take the stage as Mayor Chalmers-Currin and U.S. Representative Robin Kelly will honor the brave men and women of the Matteson police and fire departments. The crews bravely responded to the derailed 25 freight cars that led to an evacuation of a two-mile radius of the scene of the derailment.
Along with the Mayor’s administrative team, police and fire crews successfully evacuated over 300 residents in a short range of time amid concerns of a chemical leak from one of the derailed freight cars. While the move was viewed as precautionary, the crews never wavered in their combined efforts to clear the impacted area while not fully knowing of the suspicious substance that was leaking from one of the tankers.
“Our first responders approached this emergency crisis in a spirit of excellence with a concentration of saving lives. Their preparedness was due to the enormous hours of training in which they have all benefited.” says Sheila Chalmers-Currin.
Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin adds, “To watch television and witness how the Matteson Public Safety teams maintained control and executed their evacuation plan was simply amazing. I am well pleased that Mayor Chalmers-Currin and the Village Board would pause and honor these courageous leaders.”
The evening will also feature a star-studded Rhythm and Blues concert featuring R&B Grammy nominated recording artist Eric Benet and the popular NEO Soul duo Kindred and the Family Soul. The evening will begin with the silky sounds of the Delivery Point Band.
This free event will take place on the beautiful greens of the Matteson Village Hall. Over 4000 attendees will bring their lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of music, food vendors and a huge fireworks show.
The fireworks show will take place directly after the concert.
