IN RESPONSE TO AREA VIOLENCE CEASE FIRE AND SOUTHSIDE ELECTED OFFICIALS AND NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS GATHERED FOR PEACE
Bob Jackson-Executive Director of Cease Fire and Illinois State Representative Robert “Bob" Rita was be joined by Cook County Commissioner Monica Gordon, 21st Ward Alderman, Chicago Police Commander Tyrone Pendarvis, Caps Representatives and over 250 residents of the far southside West Pullman neighborhood in response to a recent wave of violence.
The mass group came together on Wednesday, June 5th, to participate in a unified march within a two mile radius of Edward H. White Park located at 122nd Street in Chicago.
“These senseless tragedies have left a dark cloud not only over these neighborhoods but in the eyes of our mothers, grandmothers, and youth. As a community of people who believe in the American dream that expresses love, good neighbors, and activities; we can’t allow these negative occurrences to destroy the hope and dreams of our youth and the vibrancy of our neighborhoods.” says Ceasefire CEO Bob Jackson.
Recently Mr. Jackson was contacted by many West Pullman residents who seek hIs engagement to help bring a halt to the violence. Mr. Jackson wasted no time in reaching out to the local, state, and county elected officials to come together in unity for this neighborhood.
“We have a collective responsibility to not only respond to the nasty epidemic called violence, but we must continue our combined efforts to fight for funding to aid these communities with increased public safety, economic development, and quality healthcare. I remain committed to this cause and will continue to deliver funding to this area.” says Representative Bob Rita.
"As we approach yet another summer, we cannot ignore the previous summers that have led to bloodshed and senseless killings. I'm hopeful that this united stand for peace, love, and community." says Cook County Commissioner Monica Gordon.
