Lt. Governor Stratton Convenes Women Business Owners in Bloomington, Illinois
BLOOMINGTON, IL – Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton gathered more than 20 women and BIPOC business owners in Bloomington, Illinois, for the inaugural We Chat. The Jan. 18th convening was the first of many forthcoming We Chats, as part of the newly launched We Thrive initiative.
“We know that when women thrive, we all thrive, and these conversations are critical to informing policy decisions and achieving financial freedom for women and girls,” said Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton. “I look forward to learning more from the women of Illinois and connecting them with the resources they need to achieve financial wellness.”
The Jan. 18th We Chat highlighted women’s struggles in the pursuit of financial freedom. When asked about the financial difficulties they experience, many women cited a lack of financial education and confidence. The group expressed a desire for additional support for small business owners, mentorship and making existing resources more accessible.
The listening session was organized in partnership with Denise Moore, CEO/Founder of the Black Business Alliance Peoria Chapter, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit corporation overseeing both WPNV 106.3 LP FM, Peoria's only Black-owned community radio station, and the Minority Business Development Center.
“The Minority Business Development Center is honored to host the first-ever We Chat,” said Denise Moore, CEO and Founder of the Black Business Alliance in Peoria Chapter, Inc. “The women in attendance represent small businesses across the spectrum of goods and services. Many of them never thought their opinions were valued at the state level and just being invited to attend by our Lt. Governor already provides a feeling of empowerment.”
Lieutenant Governor Stratton will travel throughout the state to call on women of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. If you’re interested in participating in a future We Chat, e-mail LtGovStratton@illinois.gov for more updates.
