Darren Bryant, President of the Village of Robbins, has been named 2023 Mayor of the Year by From the Roof Down Organization. Bryant accepted the award during the community organization’s 2023 Community Service Award Gala in December.
The Village of Robbins has been able to secure $40 million for infrastructure and capital improvements. Bryant said he is excited, humbled and honored to receive the award. He is grateful to the staff who execute the agenda of the Village. At the start of 2023, the Robbins Fire Department rolled out its own self-run ambulance system. It means the Village can respond to residents public health and safety incidents ten times faster than they can when they were outsourcing their ambulance services. The Village of Robbins has more than 150 distressed properties and has demolished 50 of them, which makes the town safer, as well as raising property values.
The Village of Robbins Police Department has increased its technology. There are new squad cars, computers in the squad cars and police officers have body cameras and bulletproof vests. The police contract is becoming comparable to surrounding communities. In the financial department, the Village of Robbins is on sound financial footing, which will enable the Village to get funding from lending institutions.
“What Mayor Bryant has exhibited as a first term Mayor is simply amazing. The 20 plus million-dollar MWRD project that was launched under his leadership has ignited enthusiasm and restored the Robbins pride in which residents there have been known for” From the Roof Down Organization CEO LaKia Colquitt said in a release.
The Village of Robbins has a $3 million request for proposals to develop the first commercial complex in 20 years. It will revitalize the downtown area off Claire Blvd. The Village Hall is being relocated and renovated. With more than 1,000 Village-owned parcels, Robbins is looking to attract developers.
The Village of Robbins has received a $21 million investment for a green infrastructure project that will mitigate flooding off Kedzie, as well as provide recreational opportunities. There will also be a turf football field in that same area.
“It’s going to provide green space, it’s going to provide recreational trails and a community gathering space. It’s an aesthetically beautiful space for the community that will build economic development off the primary purpose to eliminate flooding,” Bryant said.
