Richard J. Daley College Announces New Hospitality Course for Job Preparation
City Colleges of Chicago has created a new pathway for people interested in working in the hospitality industry and completers are guaranteed a job interview with industry partners
CHICAGO — City Colleges of Chicago, in collaboration with the Illinois Restaurant Association Foundation, will launch a new education program aimed at supporting those who want to work in the hospitality industry.
The program called, Hospitality Course for Job Preparation and Certifications will begin from 9 a.m. to 12 pm. on Tuesday, March 12 through April 25. The cost of the class is *$525 and the program is held, in-person, at Arturo Velasquez Institute (AVI), 2800 S. Western Avenue in Chicago. AVI is Richard J. Daley College’s satellite campus.
The classes will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for six weeks. Class completers are guaranteed a job interview with hospitality partners and participants can prepare to earn these industry certifications:
Food Handler
Food Allergen
Alcohol Service
“The classes lead to the skills to secure the job in hospitality and earn professional certifications which are essential,” said Richard J. Daley College President Janine Janosky. “The courses are prepared and taught by industry experts and I encourage everyone who
is interested in a career in hospitality to take advantage of this quality program.”
*The tuition will be waived for all qualifying Chicago residents through the Future Ready Program. The Future Ready Program is open to Chicago residents who meet the requirements. Visit ccc.edu/futureready or click here to learn more.
The 6-week classes include:
• Exploration of the restaurant industry
• Jobs training and soft-skills preparation
• Review of food handling and safety techniques
• Earn up to 4 certifications in hospitality after successfully passing the required tests
All materials will be provided to prepare students to take the National Restaurant industry’s SERVSAFE Food Handler, Food Allergen and Alcohol Service tests. Participants must be at least 18 years old to serve alcohol in the State of Illinois.
