BLESSED TO BE ALIVE!!!
(Lynwood, IL) Jada D. Curry Mayor of Lynwood, Illinois- will be joined by Lynwood Police Chief Gregory Thomas and the full Lynwood Village Board in bestowing Lynwood Police Officer Michael Johnson with the prestigious Purple Heart Award .
On June 29th, Officer Johnson responded to a call to assist the Cook County Sheriff in neighboring Ford Heights as they were in pursuit of a violent criminal offender. The offender fired a wide range of shots at the collective unit of law enforcement personnel.” However, Officer Johnson was struck by a bullet. Officer Johnson was struck in the shoulder and immediately transported to a local hospital where he would be released days later after being treated for the gunshot wound.
We are so thrilled to have Officer Johnson back to work. But his bravery must be recognized officially by our board. However, Officer Johnson has always responded without hesitation when responding to these type calls. The Purple Heart award is fitting given his approach to protecting the residents of Lynwood.” says Mayor Curry.
Chief Greg Thomas adds, “We are grateful, honored and blessed that Officer Johnson survived and will be returning to work. He is a hero to all of us and will continue to put others before himself.”
Officer Johnson has been a Lynwood Police Officer for 21 years.
