The House Of Goshen Opens In Flossmoor
By Tia Carol Jones
The Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. has opened a new 14,000 square foot facility on 2.24 acres of land in Flossmoor, Ill. House of Goshen, located at 19810 Governors Highway, is a 14-patient inpatient facility.
“We are grateful to The House of Goshen for choosing Flossmoor for its new home. We are confident that Goshen group will continue in its tradition of providing specialized care for individuals with serious illnesses who choose not to pursue or continue aggressive treatment to cure or control their condition. The House of Goshen will provide this necessary alternative,” Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin said in a release.
Hakim Bello is the Director of Business Development at House of Goshen and owner of Oasis Hospice, along with his wife Sade Bello. He said there will be two levels of care for hospice patients that will take place there: symptom management and respite. Continuous care for these patients is usually done at home.
“We show them love, we care for them and the service will be excellent,” Hakim Bello said. He added each room is personalized with a private bathroom and a 50-inch smart television, with heating and air conditioning. There is also a memory garden where patients and their families can go to reflect, as well as a dining room, activity room. “Everything we have in the building are the things people would need in a home-life setting.”
Sade Bello has 10 to 12 years of experience in hospice care. She fell in love with the hospice philosophy. Hakim and Sade decided to start their own hospice and palliative care agency to care for patients. They always dreamed of having a hospice house. About seven years ago, Hakim Bello looked at the location and inquired about what it would take to build a hospice facility there. Two years ago, the Bellos decided to come back to the land and buy it to put the facility there. The facility will also have offices for Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care.
As people of faith, the Bellos named the hospice facility House of Goshen because of its Biblical meaning. In the Bible, Goshen was the place given to the Hebrews, and while they were there, they were blessed and protected.
“That’s how we feel about this facility. It’s going to be a place of comfort. It’s going to be a set apart place for God’s glory,” said Sade Bello, Administrator of Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care.
Hakim Bello said there are misconceptions about hospice care and that hospice facilities are where people go to die. He said the goal is that at House of Goshen, people who are doing well can come and they will leave better than they came in.
“Our goal is to provide comfort, to provide the best care possible, and whatever time they have left, to live it in a comfortable way,” Hakim Bello said.
