The third annual GhanAgain Music Festival kicks off Saturday morning in the Austin neighborhood. The festival will feature a variety of music including afrobeats, jazz, blues, gospel, hip hop, house,  reggae, and spoken word. A variety of food, including Caribbean and Jamaican cuisine, will be available. African art will also be on display and available for purchase.

Over on the courts, it will be cops versus kids for a little game of 3-on-3. Kids can also enjoy the bouncy house and game truck. Families have a chance to win a free getaway and various other prizes.

The festival is sponsored by Gone Again Travel & Tours, the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the Austin Garfield/Lawndale Voice Newspapers, Choose Chicago, the Chicago Police Department’s 15th District Community Policing Office, the Chicago Park District, the Fraternal Order Police: Chicago Lodge No. 7, the Chicago Park District, and Night Out in the Parks.

What: GhanAgain Fest

Who: Chicago Austin Youth Travel Adventures (CAYTA)

Why: Chicago Austin Youth Travel Adventures (CAYTA) has sponsored a variety of excursions for all ages to museums and ethnic restaurants throughout the city in an effort to help widen horizons for city youth. GhanAgain was birthed from the fact that looking back in history, enslaved people who came to North America came from the west coast of Africa. In fact, Ms. Dyer has traced her own lineage to Ghana. When coming up with a name for their own African festival, one young lady suggested the name in reference to Dyer’s travel business, Gone Again Travel & Tours. This year marks CAYTA’s fifth year in changing the lives of westside youth through culture and career opportunities in an effort to reduce violence.
