(Chicago, IL) –Early Walker-CEO of I’m Telling, Don’t Shoot- will joined by parents, coaches, civic leaders, and players of the Hells Cat inner city football team as they collectively express their outrage at the Chicago Park District for canceling upcoming football games due to unrelated violence. The Hell Cats, young boys ranging from 7 to 9 years old, are a part of the American Youth Football League.
On last Saturday (9/30), an isolated shooting occurred during the Hell Cat’s football games at Mandrake Park (39th Cottage Grove) at 11am in the morning. Chicago Police have confirmed that the incident DID NOT involve any of the players or coaches. There have been no other incidents at any Hell Cat games.
Given the media attention from the incident, future Hell Cat games that were to be played throughout Chicago Park District properties are now being cancelled. Private institutions such as Hales Franciscan and De LaSalle High Schools have also informed the Hell Cats that they will not be allowed to rent their stadiums.
“How in the hell can we as a city just bow down to bad actors in the community by stopping kids from participating in positive activities. That sends a message that the City of Chicago is being defeated by gangs and other bad actors. Why pay taxes to the Chicago Park District if they’re just going to bow down to criminals? I’m truly shaking my head in disbelief! “says Early Walker.
Walker adds, “I’m certain that Mayor Johnson is unaware of this because he has been steadfast in standing up against violence throughout his brief tenure. But the Chicago Park District apparently has ignored the mayor’s fight against violence. I guess these 7- to 9-year-olds can now join the gangs that will surely influence and prepare them to perform carjackings and other negative events”
75% of the Hell Cats football team reside in the Englewood community of Chicago.
