It is no secret that Cook County voters may often have diverse opinions of individual elected officials and the political spectrum as a whole. But it is refreshing to hear from voters of their positive experiences with select elected officials who within their respective views are stellar and upstanding government leaders.

Such is the case with Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Larry Rogers Jr. At first glance voters have always regarded Commissioner Rogers as the ultimate professional who excels in honesty and integrity. His philosophy of fairness and transparency is often viewed as second to none within the political apparatus of the State of Illinois. However, this is not a politically manufactured personality of Commissioner Rogers, it is a family instilled way of life in which his parents mandated him as a child.

Commissioner Rogers comes from a family that has contributed much to the upward mobility of the African American community throughout the Chicagoland Metropolitan area. His father, the late Attorney Larry Rogers Sr. was not only one of the sharpest legal minds in the nation, but was a pillar of strength, love, and compassion for all of those that he encountered. “Commissioner Rogers has been steadfast in ensuring that our churches are engaged, informed, and educated concerning the property tax appeal process. Many of our congregants were not familiar with the Board of Review until Commissioner Rogers was elected. Today literally thousands of our members and residents have received much needed property tax reductions that have created extra revenue towards their daily challenges. “says Pastor Leslie Sander of the Hope Presbyterian Church of Englewood.

In addition, Commissioner Rogers has implemented many necessary changes and improvements to the Board of Review. Some include but are not limited to:

  • “Digital Appeals Processing System” or “DAPS” system which provides for the on-line filing and processing of appeals, ridding the office of the archaic and inefficient paper-intensive system process used for decades.

  • Processing record numbers of appeals in less time and with less staff than previous administrations

  • Reform the staffing of the office that has now heard more appeals and certified decisions more efficiently than ever before despite record filings since being elected in 2004 ensuring timely tax bills.
