GOVERNOR STATE UNIVERSITY HOSTS CEREMONIAL EVENT WITH THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES
State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin of the 38th District hosted a ceremonial event for Stroke Awareness in the Southland on Friday, February 24th, at Governors State University. The event was a partnership between State Representative Meyers-Martin and Governors State University dedicated to raising awareness about stroke prevention and treatment. The event was attended by Lieutenant Governor Julianna Stratton, who read the Proclamation from Governor Pritzker.
The proclamation highlighted the importance of recognizing the signs of stroke and taking immediate action to seek treatment. The Southland Stroke Prevention and Awareness Campaign is a joint partnership that will utilize the Illinois Department of Health with preventive measures for strokes. State Representative Meyers-Martin spoke about her commitment to raising awareness about this critical issue. She emphasized the importance of early detection, prevention, and access to high-quality care for stroke patients.
“Stroke Awareness is a national crisis that we must move forward with solving. Younger millennials are now commonly having strokes due to high volumes of stress, and African Americans are more inclined to death due to lack of early detection,” says State Representative Debbie Meyers- Martin.
The event also included presentations by various medical professionals and stroke survivors who shared their stories of recovery and resilience. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the latest research on stroke prevention and treatment and resources available to stroke patients and their families. Strokes are a leading cause of disability and death in the United States, with over 795,000 people experiencing a stroke yearly.
State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin’s partnership with Governor State University’s stroke awareness organizations highlights her dedication to improving the health and well-being of her constituents.
