CAREER CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS EXPO SET FOR JUNETEENTH

BY TIA CAROL JONES

In an effort to be more thoughtful and focus on the employment pillar of its three pillars, Good Green decided to sponsor a career
conference and business expo on Juneteenth. The 40 Tons Level Up Career Conference & Business Expo presented by Good Green will take place from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 19th, at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd.

40 Tons is an African-American, women-owned, Califorinia-based for-profit social impact organization founded by Loriel Alegrete. Its mission is to create equity within the cannabis industry by providing resources that create pathways to inclusion, including education,
training, legal advocacy and support and resume development. The organization also connects employers to diverse job seekers, which is why Green Thumb Industries wanted to partner with 40 Tons.

Green Thumb Industries leverages Good Green to support
organizations that support people who are impacted by the War on
Drugs. Good Green was founded with the belief that cannabis should be enjoyed as a catalyst to wellness. Its goal is to bring cannabis and communities together, by investing a portion of sales to nonprofits, with the hope those funds will create real, sustained progress against the War on Drugs.

With Good Greens, the pillars of focus are: Education, Expungement and Employment. Last year, Good Green provided grants to organizations that provide services in the pillars. This year, with the career conference and business expo, Good Green wanted to focus on diverse hiring, to ensure the work is moving toward a more inclusive Green Thumb Industries and cannabis
industry overall.

“This is really the blood, sweat and tears of 40 Tons and the work that they’re doing,” said Jai Kensey, Director of Social Impact, Good Green. Kensey understands the impact of the War on Drugs and criminal records. They can serve as barriers to keep individuals who want to work from being able to work and live freely. 40 Tons
is working to break down those barriers with this career conference.

During the career conference and business expo, attendees can receive resume writing, expungement services, skills training and workshops, legal advocacy, as well as haircuts and professional headshots. Attendees can participate in mock interviews and panel discussions to learn more about the industry and how to succeed in
the space.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with Green
Thumb Industries talent acquisition representatives and people
from other companies. Kensey said the goal is for attendees to
walk away with the information and resources they need to be successful in the cannabis industry and other industries. The event is free of charge to people who are justice-involved and who
have prior criminal convictions.

“The goal is to really provide wraparound support. This isn’t your typical job fair where you submit an application, then you leave. This is going to be an experience. You can come in and get all the things you need in a one stop shop,” Kensey said. For more
