Chicago Police Officer’s Facial Hair Helps Raise Money for South Side Children
this Father’s Day Weekend
For every FREE beard trim at mobile barbershop event, men’s grooming leader Wahl will donate $100 to his charity
STERLING, Ill. (June 5, 2023) – Last year, Chicago police officer Kenneth Griffin was honored as a finalist in the Wahl ‘Benevolent Beards’ Contest for his charitable efforts and impressive beard. Griffin started the charity ‘No Matter What’ to mentor at-risk kids from the same South Side neighborhood he grew up in. He offers them new experiences like summer camps where they can feel safe and have fun. To celebrate Griffin’s ability to combine good grooming with goodwill, and in conjunction with the launch of this year’s contest, Wahl is bringing its mobile barbershop to The Quarry Event Center (2423 E. 75th St., Chicago, IL, 60649) this Father’s Day Weekend on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (CDT), and Sunday, June 18, 2023 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. (CDT). The visit is in partnership with Real Men Cook organizers and for every FREE beard trim Wahl will donate $100 to support Griffin’s charity.
“For the past 34 years, Real Men Cook has been a fun-filled, food-tasting, family celebration starring black fathers and father-figures who foster positive interactions within the community — and this year facial hair will also take center stage,” said Rael Jackson, president of Real Men Cook. “Kenneth is a shining example of what our organization is all about, so we encourage all bearded men to come support his mission.”
Steven Yde, division Vice President for Wahl shares this sentiment, “The graphics on our mobile barbershop say it all — Wahl’s mission is to make the world a better – or bearder – place to live. What does that mean? We’re traveling the country and visiting past contest finalists — like Kenneth — who are doing good in the world; and we’re celebrating them by hosting beard grooming events that will further support their charitable efforts. Along the way, we’ll be looking for another bearded do-gooder to be named our next ‘Wahl Man of the Year.’”
How to Enter the Wahl ‘Benevolent Beards’ Contest
From now until July 1, 2023, men with beards can submit a video of themselves either explaining or demonstrating how they support a charity on the contest entry page at https://bit.ly/WahlBenevolentBeards, they can also get to the page by visiting the @WahlGrooming Facebook or Instagram pages. What kind of charity? As long as it’s a 501(c)(3) organization with a goal to impact the world positively, all charities will be considered. So, whether you’re an animal advocate or helping humans, you have the chance to put your good grooming toward goodwill.
Following the entry period, 5 finalists will each win $500 for themselves, $500 for their charity and a Wahl Trimmer. Things get exciting in August when public votes help determine which finalist wins the Grand Prize of $20,000 for himself, and a visit from Wahl’s Mobile Barbershop to do a charity fundraising grooming event. At the event, barbers will offer the public FREE beard trims, and for every trim Wahl will donate $100 to the charity — up to $5,000.
