National Black Network NubianTV Offers New Vision, Fresh Imagery and Strong Sense of Identity for African American Viewers
Progressive, forward-looking broadcast platform finds its niche by effectively reaching, respecting and accurately depicting the lives and lifestyles of people of African descent
(BOSTON, MA) July 18, 2023 – Next-level programming options, cutting-edge content, accurate Black images and information, adventure-filled lifestyles and more are the order of the day as NubianTV (Nubian Black Television), is continuing its rapid growth and resonating favorably with Black audiences. The novel network is making major strides as it stakes out its niche in the increasingly crowded-yet-stale broadcast marketplace.
Currently available for streaming and/or app download via Roku, Amazon FireTV, Vizio smart TV's and live on Vuit, Dingo and the Internet, NubianTV is a distinctly different, multi-medium broadcast property, laser-focused on truly representative African American and multicultural lifestyles. Its uniquely presented array of offerings is broad based, including news and information, lifestyle and reality, health & wellness, history and documentaries, arts and culture, fashion and beauty, travel, food and entertaining and more.
Each of these categories of content are presented with dignity and respect for its educated, high-income Black targeted demographic. One hundred percent Black-owned, and currently broadcasting live on Roku, Amazon FireTV, Vizio smart TV's, Vuit, NubianTV’s expansion in the very near future includes apps now in development for cable/satellite TV providers, smart TV's and even gaming consoles that prominently depict Black characters and images.
Its programming menu is part newsmagazine, part daily news and lifestyle programming, with prime-time and weekend options consisting of all original shows. All of this, of course, is packaged together keeping Nubian’s mission of presenting dignified, representative images of African Americans front and center. It’s a void that the network’s founder and CEO feels he is filling with room to spare, and that he says ensures NubianTV’s longevity.
“As long as the other ‘Black’ networks keep putting up a monolith of what they believe African American culture is about, or that we want to see—namely ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s sitcoms—NubianTV will be successful,” states Darrin D. Leverett, founder and CEO.
“Our targeted demographic is going to always be here, and it’s always going to be growing as the years go on and Black people become more high-income, travel more and become more worldly. The feedback is good, and the enthusiasm among everyone from audiences, to advertisers, to sponsors, to producers and even employees is good,” he continues. “We frequently hear that ‘it’s about time,’ and in five years, I see Nubian Television being No. 1—the leader in Black media.” Gail Gibson, Nubian’s president and VP of Sales, wholeheartedly concurs.
“There are many platforms, but nobody is looking at the long journey of sustainability,” Gibson relates. “NubianTV is building the capacity to receive and air programming, and to keep it consistent—the capacity to shape and reshape a narrative. We have to build a higher standard of what represents us. NubianTV is on the precipice of changing the narrative for our culture, and I’m excited to be a part of that. To me, that’s the most important thing.
“I believe that class did not leave, Gibson thoughtfully concludes. “Class is ‘in’ to stay. Our people are tired of the narrative that the Black father is missing from the home. I believe that we’re tired of the narrative that says that our children only grow up to become rappers and reality TV stars. That is not who we are as a culture, and I believe that NubianTV is positioned to win.”
