 WIFE OF POPULAR PUBLICIST ELECTED AS FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN TO THE BLUE ISLAND PARK DISTRICT

COMMISSIONER TONYA HOWARD PRIMED, PREPARED AND ENERGIZED FOR THE TASK

(Blue Island, Illinois) The wife of a prominent publicist has now been elected as the first African American Commissioner of the Blue Island Park District. Recently Commissioner Tonya Howard began her tenure on the popular Park District Board after capturing 100% of the vote in the April General Election.


“I am grateful, honored and blessed that Democratic Committeeman Bob Rita approached me about running for this particular seat. Committeeman Rita has often advocated for diversity and inclusion throughout Calumet Township. “says Commissioner Howard.


Tonya Howard is no stranger to many throughout the southland. She is happily married to popular and well-regarded Southland Spokesman, Sean Howard. Together they have participated in many philanthropic projects throughout Cook County.


The news of Commissioner Howard’s election has brought many smiles and accolades throughout Cook County.


“I am thrilled to know that Tonya’s voice is being added to the mix in Blue Island. She has the exact tone and temperament that will aid the current mix of Commissioners. I have already heard that they have truly welcomed her with open arms.” Says Rich Township Democratic Committeemen and Supervisor Calvin Jordan.


Chicago Alderman Stephanie Coleman adds, “I love Commissioner Howard. I was honored to travel to Cancun for her and Sean’s wedding. They are true pillars of the community. She will be an outstanding Commissioner”


Cook County Commissioner Monica Gordan was also happy to hear the news of Commissioner Howard.


“Commissioner Howard is such a wo
nderful person with an inclusionary approach to everything she embarks upon. She will be a big assist to the current group pf Commissioners on the board.” says Commissioner Gordon.

“Illinois State Representatives’ Thaddeus Jones and Debbie Meyers-Martin views Commissioner Howard being elected as a sign of progress.


“Committeeman Rita has always represented a diverse district in his role as State Representative. The fact that he approached Commissioner Howard is only a reflection of his fundamental beliefs of inclusion and no exclusion”


Representative and Calumet City Mayor Thaddeus Jones adds,” The Howard family has remained steadfast in their contributions to the upward mobility of the African American experience in Chicago and Cook County. Commissioner Howard will most definitely perform her duties in a spirit of excellence.


Commissioner Howard concludes, “The Commissioners and staff at the Blue Island Park District have welcomed me with open arms. We have already bonded tremendously and have a unified approach to providing quality services to the residents of Blue Island. I am more than excited about this paradigm shift of my life.”
