The Bolingbrook Black History Month Awareness Club Celebrates 25 Years by Accelerating The Dream


Southwest Suburban Longest Black History Program 

Celebrates 25 Years 


The Bolingbrook Black History Month Awareness Club will celebrate its jubilee year Saturday, February 4th, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Bolingbrook High School, 65 Raider Way, Bolingbrook, IL 60440.


The highly anticipated free event provides a platform for awareness and understanding of African American Heritage. The "Accelerating The Dream'' theme event organizers are excited to have Chicago Emmy Award Journalist Dr. Art Norman of  NBC 5 News returned as Master of Ceremony. The organization’s notable Hall of Fame awards recipients are U .S. Congressman Danny K. Davis and Valley View School District 365U School Board Member Elizabeth (Liz) Campbell for their commendable work in African American communities. In addition, Debra Vines who recently was on CNN, who was placed as Hero Top 10 of the year, will also receive a Hall of Fame award. She is recognized for her relentless work through her organization that assists parents and caregivers in navigating the systems of social services and academic institutions.


The program will also include college scholarships presented to outstanding high school seniors. A moderator will facilitate a panel discussion on how African Americans in corporate America and the community are helping to accelerate the dream. The program includes performances from a 40-member choir composed of different churches within the community. Highlights of the event will consist of an anticipated performance from Ayodele Drum and Dance, who captivate audiences with their crafted drum skills, and Windy Indie, who inspires audiences by bridging the gap between music and education with her violin selections. In addition, there will be a fashion show with designers from around the world.


With a mission to spread awareness and education about Black History in the community, Bolingbrook’s Black History Month Awareness Club aims to make a difference. The event is open to all Chicagoland, regardless of race and origin, to assist in building bridges of tolerance and understanding. The 25th Anniversary event is sponsored by the Village of Bolingbrook, Bolingbrook Bank & Trust, Walmart, B-Line, Illinois American Water, and Governor’s State University.

Then Bolingbrook Black History Month Awareness Club was created to promote diversity and Awareness of Black heritage through an educational and entertaining format. Bolingbrook attorney Anita Kontoh Carty, Felix George, former DuPage Township Trustee, and Financial Advisor Bernard Winston founded the Black History Month Awareness Club. The club works year-round to organize its one signature event, which has grown to draw hundreds throughout Will County.
