The books, written for children of all ages, focusing on the experiences of Black people, were published by NAD Thompson and Associates, a new publishing firm in Chicago."

"The books address Illinois' Standards for Language Arts, Social Studies, and Social Emotional Learning. Our books highlight manuscript and cursive writing skills, the achievements of men, women, and youth who have influenced others or shown leadership," said Towns-Thompson." She stated, "Their perseverance and successes have encouraged many to do something and not give up."

Each book cover has a distinctive color influenced by the Ghanaian Flag.

Book One is "Gold," with colorful pages for primary children and the adults who read to them. Each book uses different historical figures, with manuscript print and practice sheets. Book Two is "Green" for intermediate students and has the exact format followed by Book I, but the handwriting practice is cursive." Parker also said, "The third book cover is burnt orange for students in upper grades or higher, and each letter of the alphabet includes two noteworthy historical figures."

"Other features of the book include a motivational word for each letter of the alphabet, a definition or explanation of the word, historical figures, and locations. The facts, photos, and biographies encourage youth to do more research. There are additional blank practice handwriting sheets and a guide for holding a pencil or pen," Parker added.
