GRACE AND PEACE COMMUNITY CENTER HOSTS 25TH ANNUAL TOYS AND COAT DRIVE
CHICAGO - The Grace and Peace Community Center brought holiday cheer to Chicago’s Austin neighborhood with its annual “A Christmas To Remember” event. Celebrating its 25th year, the event served many of the migrant families recently relocated from Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and other countries that the Center has been providing resources and support to. At the event, 250 families in need received toys, food, and winter essentials thanks to event sponsor DoorDash, who provided $2,500 to support the event.
“It is a joy and an honor to be able to look back at 25 years of service and to celebrate this day with our Austin neighbors. We would not be able to do the work that we do without the support of our volunteers, donors, and partners who help us to fully unlock the potential in and with our community,” said Pastor Angelina Zayas of the Grace and Peace Community Center. “This year’s event truly is a Christmas to remember, and we are so grateful to DoorDash for its continued support as we ensure our new neighbors have a wonderful holiday season.”
Held at the Grace and Peace Community Center, organizers partnered with five Chicago Public Schools and local organizations including The Moody Church, which donated hats, gloves, scarves and more, to spread love and warmth to more than 300 families attending the event. DoorDash previously partnered with Grace and Peace Church to sponsor its Back to School event and giveaway in August, its Easter Eggstravaganza in April, as well as its Fall Festival in October.
“DoorDash is thrilled to once again partner with the Grace and Peace Community Center to provide toys, gifts, and joy this holiday season. Pastor Zayas and his congregation go above and beyond on every occasion to take care of the community, and ‘A Christmas to Remember’ is no exception,” said Mike Pomerantz, Public Engagement Manager for DoorDash. “We are proud to support the phenomenal work the Center does year round to empower the next generation in the Austin neighborhood.”
DoorDash has partnered with a wide variety of organizations in Chicago, including the Good Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Greater Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Heartland Alliance’s NEON Program, John A. Hamline Elementary School, South Side YMCA, Ravenswood Elementary, Sarah’s Circle, TCA Health and more.
