Exelon Foundation Grants Over $850,000 to Education Organizations Providing STEM Education in Delaware, District of Columbia Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
28 schools and education-focused nonprofits are receiving grants to modernize or create state-of-the-art science labs, championing a new thinking about our environment.
CHICAGO — Exelon Corporation (Nasdaq: EXC), the nation’s premier transmission and distribution utility company, and the Exelon Foundation have awarded Green Lab Grants for the third consecutive year. To date, the program has provided $2.5 million to more than 70 grantees, which include public schools, private schools, and education-focused nonprofit organizations that run out-of-school programs serving Title I-eligible middle and high school students.
“STEM skills are critically important to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s careers,” said Calvin Butler, president and chief operating officer of Exelon. “By partnering with organizations who help students outside of the school day, we give educators the resources they need to train young people in fields that will lead to good jobs. We hope that one day these students can work for us, helping Exelon lead the clean energy transformation.”
Grantees receive up to $50,000 each to support hands-on educational spaces where students can prepare for careers in science, technology, math and/or engineering (STEM). These funds are used to create or modernize spaces with interactive activities and encourage a deeper understanding of how technology can be leveraged to promote environmental sustainability. Grantees are chosen through an independent review process administered by the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
