2020 DNC Delegate Evans excited for positive benefits convention can bring to Chicago

Chicago, Illinois – In response to the democratic national party leaders’ announcement to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention in the City of Chicago, Southside resident and State Rep. Marcus C. Evans, Jr. (D-Chicago) joins Governor JB Pritzker, Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson and
other top Illinois leaders in celebrating this great opportunity.

“I want to thank the Democratic National Convention, President Biden & Vice President Harris for choosing the City of Chicago for the National Convention. The voters, advocates and political leaders of my city have shown their dedication to democratic values so this convention opportunity
is well deserved,” said Rep. Marcus C. Evans, Jr.

The convention will see Democrats unveil the policy priorities of their party and choose a candidate to run for president. The convention has been hosted in Chicago eleven times, with the last instance in 1996. Chicago has been the site of the party’s convention more than any other city.
Evans sees this as an opportunity to showcase all of Chicago, including his Southside community, and cement Chicago as the epicenter of the Democratic movement.

“It is wonderful to know that next year the Democratic National Convention will be returning to our city. While the spotlight will be on my world-class city as a whole, as a leader and representative of the Southside of Chicago, I hope that our DNC is intentional about investing and engaging with the local black businesses and media,” said Rep. Marcus C. Evans, Jr. “The
unique neighborhoods, people and wonders of my community should be celebrated during this convention. The voters of my community have been the consistent backbone of the Democratic Party for my entire life.”
