Le Village Cowork Invests in Early Childhood Educators with Equitable Wages and Comprehensive Benefits
CHICAGO, lll. -- Le Village Cowork, a childcare and coworking space, is working to address the so-called teacher pay penalty. At Le Village all early childhood educators receive living wages, paid time off, healthcare coverage, paid family leave, free enrollment for one child after six months, and continuing education opportunities.
Low pay and a lack of health benefits is a systematic challenge
faced by early childhood educators across the country. A recent
study found that teachers and staff working with the youngest
children (age birth to five years) are 7.7 times more likely tof all
below the poverty line than their peers in a K-8 classroom.T he
same study also found that childcare workers in most states do not
earn enough to cover their basic needs.
“Our teachers and educators take exceptional care of our
children, and they deserve to be cared for too,” said Daniella
Cornue, Owner and Founder. “I am really proud that Le Village
provides our teachers and assistants with liveable compensation
and full benefits.”
Le Village offers affordable childcare for members, competitive
wages for staff, and a profitable business model. This seemingly
unattainable trifecta is disrupting the long-held inequities of
essential early childhood care, which disproportionately affects
women of color.
“Being an early childhood educator is a labor of love, but it
should pay well too,” Cornue said. “This isn’t just about back-to school or Labor Day. It’s a year-round commitment to solving an
issue within the childcare system that has gone on far too long.”
Access to quality care supports healthy early childhood development, makes it possible for women to participate in the
workforce, and contributes to economically thriving communities.
Case-in-point, 64% of Le Village staff are women of color; 80% of
Le Village’s members are working mothers.
The first Le Village location is in Irving Park with additional
spaces coming later this year. Those interested can also bring the
coworking and childcare concept to their community with franchise
opportunities.
Le Village Cowork is on a mission to put working parents,
especially women, back to work. The Cowork + Childcare model
allows members to be present with their kids, create a flexible and
independent lifestyle, make lifelong friends, and love coming to
work again.
Le Village Cowork is expanding with franchise opportunities.
Owners use a proven model to pivot their professional and parenting experiences to be part of a movement to modernize motherhood and access to childcare.
