ILLINOIS LEGISLATIVE BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION TO
HOST ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE AND GALA

From Thursday to Friday, Oct. 13-15, the Illinois Legislative
Black Caucus Foundation (ILBCF) will host its Annual Conference at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk. The conference will be an opportunity for students, legislators, and other civically-
minded individuals to participate in informative workshops, hear from a lineup of subject matter experts, network, and celebrate the ILBCF’s enduring legacy during its 20th anniversary year.

The ILBCF works in tandem with the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus (ILBC), which was formed in 1968 to advance the interests of Black Americans in the General Assembly, to improve
the quality of life for Black Illinoissans through policy. The 2022 conference theme — United In Purpose — speaks to the two organization’s shared mission of improving the quality of life for Black Illinoisans through policy.

“We are so excited to celebrate 20 years of the ILBCF through a series of educational, policy-driven, premie networking opportunities and events that will be deeply impactful for attendees of all walks,” said Tiffany Hightower, Executive Director of the ILBCF. “The ILBC has produced the nation’s first Black President, first Black Senator and Chicago’s first Black Mayor, and we have such a bright future ahead of us. We’re thrilled to convene this event as a celebration of all we have done and will do to create real social change through legislative action.”

The conference lineup includes several curated panels, such as a “A Walk on Weed Street: Equity in the Cannabis Industry.” Additional workshops will take a deep dive into the ILBC’s four
policy pillars: 1) criminal justice, police accountability and violence reduction, 2) education and workforce development, 3) economic access, opportunity and equity, and 4) healthcare and human services. Attendees will also have ample opportunity to network at the Thursday night function, the Saturday morning breakfast
with prominent leaders, and the celebratory gala on Saturday evening which will feature entertainment including Regina
Belle and a surprise speakers and more.
