City Colleges of Chicago would like to remind all business sectors to continue to hire apprentices from City Colleges of Chicago or connect with CCC to begin an apprenticeship program.
CHICAGO — City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) celebrates National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), November 14-20, 2022 with a call to action to all business and nonprofit sectors to begin or strengthen their apprenticeship programs, and hire a CCC student as an apprentice.
CCC apprenticeship offerings combine on-the-job training with college-level classroom instruction. Through strategic partnerships with many companies like Accenture, Allstate, AON, JPMorgan Chase, Northwestern Medicine, and Zurich, just to name a few, CCC is partnering with business sectors to develop more apprenticeship opportunities for our students that create a diverse and skilled talent pipeline that meet the needs of business while matching the goals of CCC students.
“Our incredible apprenticeship program offers structured job training, supplemental education, and mentorship while also aligning with the career goals of our students. This experience is invaluable,” said City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Juan Salgado. “Companies also greatly benefit from this program because it helps them build their workforce today and for the future.”
“Through my participation in an apprenticeship, I was able to earn a Community Health Worker credential from Malcolm X College in one semester. The best part was that those classes were built into my 40-hour work week. My apprenticeship helped pay for my education, which was huge for me. Since finishing the apprenticeship at the HAP Foundation, I went on to earn my bachelor’s at Northeastern Illinois University and I’m in a master’s program there now in public health. The mentorship I received through the apprenticeship program showed me I could do this,” said CCC alumna Maureen Burns.
Through these types of partnerships, companies develop a workforce that will positively impact the economic recovery and creates a workforce that is more inclusive. It also provides access to high demand positions for a diverse student population.
“Our partnership with City Colleges is helping The HAP Foundation meet our needs for Community Health Workers quickly. We are hiring apprentice candidates who know the communities we serve and who received on-the-job training through Malcolm X College’s certificate program. Our team is able to live, work, learn, and serve their home communities where they are known and trusted.” ~ The HAP Foundation.
The ongoing challenges manufacture employers face today is the growing need for qualified entry-level and middle-skilled workers to help create, design, machine, build, and repair products for Chicago’s economy and beyond.
“Mauser, like so many other manufacturing companies, saw that the severe shortage of talent in the industrial maintenance sector as one of the biggest challenges to our future success. So we began the concerted effort to begin teaching and training new generations of maintenance technicians… and in tandem with those efforts, we began partnering with City Colleges.” ~ Mauser.
CCC offers apprenticeships in various industry sectors that align with its Centers of Excellence, such as; IT, Business/Finance, Manufacturing, Computer Science and Engineering, Hospitality, Logistics, and more. Companies are investing in our students.
Benefits of a CCC apprenticeship and why this investment is critical to student success and employee satisfaction include:
• Mentoring
• Coaching support
• The development of real-world skills through on the job training
• Quality instruction
• A livable wage
• Access to a high demand career
NAW is a nationwide celebration where industry, labor, equity, workforce, education, and government leaders host events to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship for re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities.
