Business owner and Harvey resident is running for Mayor
McCaskill is a lifelong resident of Harvey and is running for Mayor of the City of Harvey. He wants to better the community. He and his wife, Dr. Kisha McCaskill, both grew up in Harvey. McCaskill ran for Mayor of Harvey before. While he wasn’t going to run again, residents in the City encouraged him and pledged their support for his campaign.
McCaskill has a paralegal firm, a custom motorcycle business and a lawn care company. He also is the Chairman of the South Suburban Regional Black Chamber of Commerce. “I have a huge history of assisting businesses that are not in good standing to get them out of deficiencies,” McCaskill said.
McCaskill wants to move the City of Harvey forward. His No. 1 focus is public safety and the Harvey’s Police Department. He wants to create a better image of the department so that people feel safe and know that they are secure. One of his ideas is to have six police officers in each ward for each shift. He feels that will protect the business owners and the residents.
“People don’t feel safe, so before we can even talk about bringing people in to better the community; before anyone wants to move into the City of Harvey, we just have to take care of the criminal element,” McCaskill said. He added that he wants an open and transparent government.
McCaskill wants to set himself apart from the other candidates running for Mayor by being honest. His background as a community advocate and a voice for the people are what he thinks already sets him apart. He wants his administration to be business friendly. “We’re going to be pro business, pro union and pro people administration,” he said.
McCaskill wants to bring in the “best and brightest” department heads into the City of Harvey on his first day in office. He knows there are qualified and talented people who live in the City of Harvey and he wants them to come work for the City of Harvey. He also wants the Police Chief to move to the City of Harvey within six months of being sworn in as Chief.
McCaskill wants to see men in the City of Harvey step up and take care of their children. He has canvassed the City and has seen there are a lot of single parent homes. “Black women are the backbone of the City of Harvey, so we’re going to uplift them. My administration is going to look like our community. So, if we’re 83% Black, 15% Hispanic and others, that’s how our administration is going to look,” McCaskill said.
McCaskill’s parents always pushed service. Harvey is home and he loves where he grew up and lives. McCaskill has pledged that if elected, his salary as Mayor will be donated to senior citizens, who are single, 65 and older. He wants to pay for their water bills.
