Matteson, IL—Yumeka Brown-Village Clerk for the Village of Matteson, Il- was joined by over 200 in Chicago today as they celebrated the swearing in of Brown as the newly elected Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD).

“Yumeka Brown is the breath of fresh air in which the MWRD will benefit from. I am thrilled and confident that she will serve the residents of Cook County in a spirit of excellence.” says Calvin Jordan, Rich Township Democratic Committeeman.
Yumeka understands first-hand how vital clean water and the air is to our communities, and her goal is to fight for equitable and healthy communities across Cook County. Yumeka’s passion for this seat on MWRD was ignited when her son was diagnosed with a waterborne environmental Illness called blastomycosis. The election was not about political gain, but her way of turning her pain into purpose. She is committed to fighting every day in making sure environmental issues are looked at in every corner of Cook County because the issues vary from one end to the next and representation is critical.
Yumeka Brown was endorsed by the Cook County Democratic Party for the 6-year term along with Patricia Theresa Flynn, Mariyana Spyropoulos, and Daniel Pogorzelski for the 2-year term.
Yumeka was also endorsed by many clergy persons, civic organizations, elected officials, and others. Among the elected officials who have endorsed her candidacy are Rich Township Supervisor Calvin Jordan, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Illinois State Senate President Don Harmon, and Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin.
As the current Village Clerk of Matteson, Brown has built an impressive history of overseeing the official records of the Village. She has received numerous accolades and awards during her tenure as Clerk.
Representative Meyers-Martin fully endorsed Yumeka Brown and stated, “Clerk Brown has always performed her duties as Clerk in a spirit of excellence. Moreover, she has rapidly become an instrumental political leader in southern Cook County. I enthusiastically endorsed her candidacy.”
Yumeka is a 20 year plus year non-profit Certified Association Executive (CAE). She is currently employed as the Senior Director, Governance and Operations for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM). She enjoys creating exceptional boards through her governance experience. She is also a small business owner, where she owns Redwood Luxe restaurant in Olympia Fields, IL.
Yumeka holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and is a 2020 graduate of the Illinois Women in Leadership Training Academy. Yumeka is a proud native of the Roseland community and the Southland of Chicago. She currently resides in Matteson with her husband Corey and son Kahlil.
