AS GOVERNOR PRITZKER HAS AWARDED
SMALL COMMUNITIES THE CHANCE
TO IMPROVE DOWNTOWN STRUCTURES & REBUILD COMMERCIAL
NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGHOUT LOCAL COMMUNITIES
(Calumet City, IL) Mayor Thaddeus Jones and The City of Calumet City are excited to announce the arrival of what many are calling a “game changer.” Calumet City has been awarded $2,000,000 to help with the redevelopment of its local downtown area and commercial spaces throughout the city. The grant comes as a highlight for the town through the efforts of
Governor Pritzker.
Many small communities were awarded grants to help rebuild and revitalize the infrastructure of their commerce districts. Many of these towns suffered significant losses during the peak of Covid-19 and have diligently tried to revitalize their communities.
“We are extremely grateful to receive this grant that will help make our city more welcoming, warm, and pleasing for our residents. These funds will assist us in enhancing the beauty of our town and revitalize structures that might just need a cosmetic update to become more marketable. We are thankful to Governor Pritzker for selecting Calumet City.” says Mayor Thaddeus Jones.
The Rebuild Downtown & Main Streets Capital Grants were designed to support improvements and encourage investment in commercial corridors. Downtowns that have experienced large disinvestment were a great priority as well. The grant will help fund capital projects that make these commercial areas in Calumet City more attractive for private investment, generate short-term and long-term employment opportunities, and improve the quality of life in the community through high-quality infrastructure and amenities. One of the goals in mind is to preserve structures throughout Calumet City with historical significance that enhance the neighborhood’s unique character.
