Chicago, Illinois – August 15, 2022 - AKArama Foundation awards Scholarships to 18 College-bound CPS Students
The AKArama Foundation, Inc. Research Development and Fundraising Committee is excited to announce the “Wants and Needs” raffle to raise funds for scholarships, education, health, and financial well-being in the local community. The raffle offers a chance for each supporter to win because their donations will help these services. The actual raffle winners will receive a variety of gifts that include designer bags, and gift cards for travel, groceries, and gas. The AKArama Foundation has been the non-profit entity of Theta Omega Chapter since 1981. Use this link to purchase tickets before the deadline on September 5, 2022:
“The AKArama Foundation extended its decades-long record of supporting scholars by presenting $45,000 in college scholarships at the annual scholarship luncheon held at the Hilton Hotel in Oak Lawn, IL,” according to foundation president, Kimberley Egonmwan. The members of the foundation and committee chaired by Ouida Dyer-Bradford, organized a lovely event with decorations that embodied the focus on scholarship and community service. All who attended were absolutely impressed by each of the 18 recipients. These awardees, 15 in total, included young ladies who were 2022 graduates of Chicago Public Schools who have succeeded at the highest level of academic achievement. Also included were 3 continuing scholars who have been given scholarships through the Barbara Guilbeaux Scholarship fund since they began their collegiate studies.
The 2022 AKArama Foundation Scholarship Awardees included:

· Demi Davis: Louisiana State University, Major: Professional Theater/ Performing Arts
· Elicia Chatman: University of Michigan, Major: Biology-Pre Health
· Imani McDonald: University of IL at Chicago, Major: Applied Psychology/Pre-Med
· Janah Richardson: Princeton University, Major: Public Policy, Public & International Affairs
· Jasmine Nyarko: University of Illinois at Chicago, Major: Pre-Medicine Track
· Jayna McGruder: University of Illinois, Major: Political Science/Environmental Studies
· Kristen Martin: Georgia State University, Major: Business & Marketing
· Kourtney Cole: Southern University A&M College, Major: Education
· Kristen Reid: Xavier University of Louisiana, Major: Psychology/Pre-Medicine
· Kyndal Godbold-Henderson: Northeastern University, Major: Heal Science & Business
· Markisha Ford: Hampton University, Major: Engineering Minor: English
· Mikayla Godbolt: University of Miami, Major: Global Health Science
· Morgan Rae Curry: Howard University, Major: Marketing Minor: French
· Nia Moss: Xavier University, Major: Psychology
· Savannah Graves: Howard University, Major: Biology Minor: Chemistry
· Sydney Weaver: University of Miami, Major: Economics/Marketing & Sports Adm
· Tia Smith: Duke University, Major: Theater Studies & African American Studies
Each recipient was recommended by their high school teachers and counselors for achievements in and out of the classroom.
The AKArama Foundation scholarships included the following specific categories:
Historically Black College or University Scholarship is based on acceptance at a Historically Black College or University as a full-time student.
Mary G. Brock Arts Scholarship awarded to a student majoring in performing or non-performing art.
Virginia Scott Brown Scholarship awarded to a Black female majoring in Education and attending a Historically Black College or University.
Jacqueline B. Vaughn Scholarship awarded to a student who expresses an interest to seek a college degree in the field of Education.
Patricia A. Jones Scholarship awarded to a student with a “C” average who is majoring in either Social Work or Education.
Linda Marie White Scholarship awarded to a CPS student, Public Service or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) based careers as a full-time student.
Barbara Guilbeaux Continuing Scholarship awarded to a student majoring in the field of Medicine or Law and can be continued past undergraduate education.
AKArama Foundation Financial Need Scholarship awarded to a student meeting all eligibility requirements including verified financial need.
