Rep. Kelly Announces More Than $4 Million in Federal Grants Awarded to Five Community Health Centers

Congresswoman Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) announced today, that five community health centers in the South Suburbs and Chicago’s South Side have been awarded a total of more than $4 million in infrastructure improvement grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

“More than ever, our community health centers are actively reducing barriers to accessing care by bringing care directly into the community,” said Congresswoman Kelly. “This grant funding will enable our local health centers to make infrastructure improvements and expansions to help ensure that area residents are getting the quality primary and preventative care services they need to lead healthy lives.”

Family Christian Health Center will use the grant to help build a new pediatric facility in Dolton, increasing exam rooms from three to six rooms and adding additional pediatric programs, including obesity and diabetes, asthma, fitness and other specialty services. The health center’s goal is to create a one-stop shop for children’s health care in the south suburban Chicago area. The new building will be constructed on the lot adjacent to the existing clinic, which will remain open during construction to prevent any interruption of medical services.

“We are thrilled to have the chance to expand our Pediatric Program in Dolton by giving our patients and community a brand new, state-of-the-art facility that will allow us to serve more patients in a great new environment,” said Dr. Lisa Green, CEO and co-founder of Family Christian Health Center. “Our young patients and families show up for their appointments despite obstacles; and we will continue showing up for them by giving them our very best.”

Aunt Martha’s will use its $1.7 million grant to perform necessary capital improvements and renovations at three of its community health centers, including the Kankakee Community Health Center, East Joliet Community Health Center, and Aurora Community Health Center. The improvements will improve patient comfort, social distancing and workflows, and increase access to vital services through the expansion of health center capacity.

“This funding will allow Aunt Martha’s to increase access to our already expansive network of integrated healthcare through the addition of several new exam rooms and behavioral health offices,” said Raul Garza, president and CEO of Aunt Martha’s Health and Wellness. “It will also allow us to perform necessary capital improvements and interior renovations to ensure that our health centers remain state-of-the-art facilities where our staff are proud to work, and our patients are proud to receive care.”

Aunt Martha’s has locations across Chicagoland, including Harvey, Chicago Heights, Park Forest, Olympia Fields, Hazel Crest and more.

In addition to Aunt Martha’s and Family Christian Health Center, other grant recipients are Chicago Family Health Center, Inc., TCA Health, Inc. and Christian Community Health Center.
