DuSABLE MUSEUM ANNOUNCES SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE

DuSUMMER TO FEATURE JAZZ, HOUSE MUSIC AND MORE

FROM JUNE THROUGH SEPTEMBER

To celebrate the reopening to the public of the DuSable Museum of African American History, the Museum has announced “DuSummer” a robust schedule of outdoor entertainment programs from June 2, 2021 through September 31, 2021 …and there’s something for everyone included in the lineup.
The DuSable Museum of African American History is excited to present the 2021 entertainment season building on the success of its previous outdoor experiences. Our “Sounds of History” and “Cabin Fever” performances became destination events attended by visitors from throughout the city and suburbs. Now, by partnering with JMC Events, the DuSable Museum will expand its footprint to encompass every musical style born of the Black diaspora.
“DuSummer” will take place five (5) days per week, Wednesday through Sunday on the Plaza of the DuSable Museum Roundhouse. Below are the nightly themes for the series:
Wednesdays are dedicated to DuJazz -From the blast of Miles Davis’ horn to the sweet voice of an Ella Fitzgerald melody DuJazz will celebrate the original African American art form – JAZZ.
Thursdays are dedicated to DuDiaspora featuring a mix of music exploring Latin and African rhythms during which guests are invited to hit the dance floor and enjoy Samba, merengue, Afrobeat and Dance Hall Music.
Fridays will be dedicated to DuHouse where Chicago’s Underground Club culture of the 1980’s gave birth to House Music and “House Heads” are encouraged to relive the days of The Music Box and The Warehouse where legendary DJ’s such as  Frankie Knuckles helped everyone dance the night away.
On Saturdays the DuSable Museum will welcome DuComedy and since Chicago has a reputation for being a true comedy city this entertainment event will showcase local and national talents who’ll be tested on one of the most discerning stages in the country.
Sundays will conclude each week with the DuSteppin’ Day party during which dancers and observers are invited to put on their “Sunday Best” and put this original Chicago dance style on display as they “Step on The Plaza.”
