Sheila Chalmers-Currin- Village President of Matteson, IL) will be joined by United States Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings, Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin, the Matteson Village Board, County officials, and local officials in a groundbreaking for an all-new 558,000 square foot cultivation production facility.

The 4Front Ventures Corporation, a vertically integrated, nationwide cannabis operator, will also be present to express their excitement and joy in officially calling Matteson, Illinois their new home for their multi-billion-dollar operation.

The first phase of the buildout will constitute 258,000 sq. ft. of building, comprising 65,000 sq. ft. of flowering canopy and approximately 70,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space for the development of in-house and white labeled products such as flower, concentrates, edibles, tinctures, gel capsules and other manufactured products, which will be offered to patients and customers at an accessible price point.

The buildout will also bring cutting-edge advanced cultivation, manufacturing and automation technologies, a full state-of-the-art kitchen, along with low-cost production methodologies to help drive down the costs of goods for consumers and cannabis businesses. Additionally, Phase 1 is also expected to create 240 jobs and be complete in Q1 of 2023 while Phase 2 will add an additional 300,000 sq. ft. of Facility and bring an additional 260 jobs to the region.

“I am honored that one of the top cultivation companies in the United States will now call the Village of Matteson their new home. It is quite evident that cultivation centers have a remarkable economic impact on local communities throughout the nation. This project will provide over 500 jobs ranging from construction to operations. Furthermore, it will broaden the regional economy as well.” says Matteson Village President Sheila Chalmers-Currin.

“I want to thank Matteson Village President, Sheila Chalmers-Currin, the Bureau of Economic Development in Cook County, World Business Chicago, the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Governor Pritzker, and our partner, IIPR for being tremendous partners of ours in this project,” said Leo Gontmakher, Chief Executive Officer of 4Front. “With this announcement, we mark the beginning of a multi-phase expansion project to create the largest cannabis cultivation and manufacturing Facility in Illinois. The sheer size of this next-generation Facility will allow us to meet growing consumer demands. It will also broaden the reach of our innovative, low-cost cultivation and manufacturing methodologies and suite of brands of products while creating jobs and new streams of tax revenue for both Matteson, Cook County, and the State of Illinois. As we continue to expand our footprint in Illinois, we believe this Facility will continue to drive growth and added value for our customers and shareholders.”
Illinois, the 11th state to legalize cannabis for adult-use, commenced adult-use cannabis sales at the beginning of last year.

In this first year of adult-use sales, Illinois’ regulated cannabis sales were more than $1.0 billion in 2020, including $669 million in adult-use sales and more than $366 million in medical-use sales. During last month alone, reflecting the continued strong and growing demand, Illinois adult-use cannabis dispensaries generated more than $116 million in sales (excluding medical cannabis sales), according to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. For the first time, in the first quarter of 2021, Illinois’ tax revenues from regulated cannabis sales surpassed tax revenues from liquor sales.

“Over the past four years I have echoed the clarion call of President Sheila Chalmers-Currin in her call for diverse forms of economic development. I’m thrilled that communities of color such as Matteson are actively attracting cultivation centers that have resulted in positive impacts to local economies.” says Representative Meyers-Martin.
