Rep. Rita Provides Chicago, Riverdale Shred Days to Help Clean Up from Pandemic
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has helped many people realize they have a lot of clutter in their homes and lives they need to clean up. State Rep. Bob Rita is doing his part to help.
Rep. Rita, D-Blue Island, is sponsoring two free Community Shred Days in his 28th House District on Saturday, Aug. 14. A shred truck will be on site at both locations to help protect residents from identity theft or get rid of unwanted paper documents such as old bank statements, medical records, bills and receipts.
The first Community Shred Day on Aug. 14 will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jesse Owens Community Academy, located at 12302 S. State Street in Chicago. The second will run from Noon to 2 p.m. at the Riverdale Village Municipal Building, located at 157 W. 144th St. in Riverdale and be co-sponsored by Riverdale Mayor Lawrence Jackson.
Rep. Rita and organizers ask anyone bringing their documents for shredding to remove paper clips, staples and other bindings to ensure the shred truck can properly dispose of them. Each participating vehicle is limited to two boxes of documents.
Rep. Rita is sponsoring several Shred Days throughout his district at no charge to his constituents as one of many ways his office works to help meet people’s needs. He has secured millions of dollars to help improve infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, playgrounds and parks in these communities, and helped construct a new baseball field in Chicago and has supported legislation to bring citizens’ voices directly to Chicago Public Schools through an elected school board.
“I have been sponsoring free Community Shred Days for my residents for several years because I know how important it is to safely and securely get rid of documents that have piled up at home,” Rita said. “We always have a great turnout at these events and I look forward to seeing many neighbors and friends come out to clean up some clutter and get a little peace of mind during these difficult times.”
