HISTORIC WESTSIDE MARCH TO CULMINATE AT THE FORMER WESTSIDE HOME OF THE LATE DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR
HISTORIC WESTSIDE MARCH TO CULMINATE AT THE FORMER WESTSIDE HOME OF THE LATE DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR
Westside Faith leaders will be join by a mass group of multi-cultural faith, Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr., community leaders, elected leaders and residents as they will march alongside the Eisenhower Expressway of Chicago in effort to bring attention to the numerous disparities impacting African Americans throughout the nation.
The vision for this historic march was birthed upon the tragic death of the late George Floyd who was murdered by the hands of an overzealous Minneapolis Police Officer. The Westside faith leaders have continued to shine a microscope on the issue of police reform not only in Chicago, but throughout the United States.
The leaders of faith are greatly encouraged by the confirmation of attendance by the members of the Chicago Police Board as well as the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA). This march will be the first of it’s kind to where Christians, Catholics, Jews and Muslims walk through the Westside with a common theme.
With one voice and one message the group will advocate for better schools, improved housing, affordable healthcare services and increased economic development in black and brown communities. All of which the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr firmly articulated when he moved his family to Chicago’s Westside.
The faith leaders will begin their march at the Eisenhower Expressway on Independence Blvd to Roosevelt Road. Then will proceed south on Central Park Blvd to 16th Street. They will then proceed westbound to the site of the apartment where Dr. King once lived at 1550 S. Hamlin.
The event’s convener is Pastor Michael Eddy, Senior Pastor of the People’s Church of the Harvest (COGIC) of Chicago.
