Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering to host Fall Orientation & Registration this Saturday

The Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering Program (ChiS&E) today announced it will host its Fall 2019 Parent Orientation & Registration on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at South Shore International College Prep High School, 1955 E 75th St., from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a .m. Guest speaker for the free event will be Miguel del Valle recently appointed President of the Chicago Board of Education.

Students participating in the 10 year old ChiS&E science and math focused programs realize demonstrated success in science and engineering in their college careers and later in their chosen career fields. The requirement for parent participation is one of the key success points of the program.

This upcoming Parent Orientation and Registration is for students currently in grades K –11 and participation in the Fall 2019 Orientation/Registration is required. Parents must participate with their students in grades K – 3 and grade 5 during the Saturday sessions.

“We are excited to welcome Board President del Valle to our Fall Orientation,” said Kenneth Hill, CEO of ChiS&E. Our goal is to increase the number of African American and Latino CPS students with sufficient math and science preparation to enter competitive university science and engineering programs.”

del Valle is a retired elected official who has served on an impressive list of committees, boards, and commissions, within the city, many focused on education including the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC); Founding Board Member of Advance Illinois and the Illinois Federation for Community Schools

ChiS&E programs are offered during four Saturday sessions of three hours each beginning in kindergarten – 11th grade. Recently added courses include biochemistry, Organic chemistry and physics.

ChiS&E partners include Chicago Public Schools (CPS), the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC),

the University of Chicago (UofC), and the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) Colleges of Education, Engineering, and the Department of Mathematics
