ROBBINS MAYOR ELECTED TO LEAD THE SOUTH SUBURBAN MAYORS AND MANAGERS ASSOCIATION
Tyrone Ward-Mayor of Robbins, Illinois- has been overwhelmingly elected to the position of President of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA). The full body vote was taken on Thursday, May 16th during the regular meeting of the SSMMA. Mayor Ward takes over for outgoing President Mayor Vernard L. Alsberry of Hazel Crest.
“I’m grateful, honored and blessed to have been elected by my peers to this awesome position. There are various common denominators that link all of our various communities. Moreover there are some very important issues that are being considered in Springfield that will have lasting impacts on Southern Cook County. With the help of my fellow Mayors and Managers, we will work extremely hard to ensure that we’re positioned to receive additional revenue in which all of our towns so desperately need.” says President Ward.
President Ward has already begun discussions with his colleagues as well as state legislators concerning an array of pending Springfield issues including the possibility of legalizing recreational marijuana, changing the state income tax system, instituting sports betting and gaming. However the SSMMA is equally concerned about the proposed 3rd South Suburban Airport.
Ward adds, “I’m in complete support of Congresswoman Kelly in her effort to urge Governor Pritzker to allow $150 million dollars to move the project forward. We are in dire need of an interchange and other infrastructure improvements along I-57. A third airport would liken southern cook county to those areas that have benefited from the O’Hara and Midway Airports.
