Ground Breaking Ceremony Held For New Senior Living Complex Coming To South Suburbs

A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held at the southeast corner of Lincoln Highway and Ridgeland Avenue in Matteson to celebrate the start of construction on a new upscale senior living development. The Mayor of the Village of Matteson, Sheila Chalmers- Currin, was joined by elected officials, residents, and members of the development team who all spoke about their excitement for this greatly needed project.

Alexi Development, a family-owned real estate development and construction firm, is leading the project that will be built on the 13-acre lot.

“I work with a lot of senior groups and every day I hear stories about how definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. I commend the Village of Matteson and Mayor Chalmers-Currin for looking into and addressing the housing needs of seniors because this will be a challenge going forward in the 21st century. It’s very exciting to be here at the beginning of new housing in Matteson for our seniors,” said Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin.

The first phase of the project will include a total of 75 one or two bedroom units with 55 units being Standard Assisted Living Apartments and 20 units being Memory Care apartments.

“We are so proud to be here today. It has been a long time coming and we are extremely excited about this project. The first building will have 55 assisted living rooms and 20 memory care rooms. The second building will be 52 independent rooms with underground parking. We plan on being here for a while, building a beautiful community and complex for the Village and we are centrally located three quarters of a mile from Interstate 57 and Interstate 80, so it’s a great opportunity for everyone and we are really excited about it,” said Tony Vari, president and chief executive officer of Alexi Development.

In addition to the living spaces, there will also be a secured outdoor courtyard space with walking paths, multiple communal living rooms, community rooms, a salon, an activity room, a library, a dining room, a theater, and a bistro for everyone to enjoy.

“Congratulations to the Village of Matteson on this achievement and also in partnering with a developer to create a great community where I might live one day,” said Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller. “This is such a needed thing in our community and it’s great to see everyone come out to support the economic growth and development of our community not only for this generation but for future generations to come.”

Now that construction has begun, the scheduled opening date is October 15th, 2020 and Mayor Chalmers-Currin said that she has already been receiving calls from residents who are interested in securing their rooms.

“This has been a long time coming and we are excited to have Alexi as part of this partnership. We want to make sure that we bring not only a beautiful facility but also something that is greatly needed,” said Chalmers-Currin.
