Ford Motor Company is Seeking Unsung Heroes in the Chicago Area
As part of its ongoing commitment to support local communities, Ford is kicking off its Ford Freedom Unsung program to honor outstanding achievements of ordinary people in the African American community in the Chicago area.
Made possible by a grant from Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, Ford Freedom Unsung salutes and honors individuals who go above and beyond to support the community. Nominees should be people whose actions uplifted the Chicago area and moved the community forward.
The Ford Freedom Unsung program will recognize the winners with a special award at a private reception on Nov. 15th in Chicago with the location to be announced at a later time.
“The Chicago community is rich with individuals whose support helps others every day,” said Pamela Alexander, director of Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Ford is honored to celebrate their contributions."
Nominations are due by Monday, Oct. 24. Entries should include a brief 500-word compelling summary describing what distinguishes the nominee as an individual and how the nominee’s actions have benefitted the lives of others. The name, address, phone number and email or the nominee and nominator should be included.

The Ford Freedom Unsung Award Program celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions in their communities while inspiring others to also have a positive impact. In addition to national recognitions, the program has traveled to Los Angeles, Kansas City, Anchorage, Atlanta, Indianapolis and Houston to honor unsung heroes since its inception in 2012.
Chicago is one of 26 markets in the United States and Puerto Rico where Ford and its dealers have expanded their commitment to meet community needs by collaborating on programs and nonprofit outreach. The initiative, known as Operation Better World, was launched in 2008.
Ford Motor Company supports programs that make a positive difference in the neighborhoods and communities where the company does business Ford has invested over $3.5 million dollars in the Chicago market with $1.5 million dollars invested in various programs the last five years through a variety of partners, that include:
· After School Matters – STEM education opportunities
· Future Founders – youth entrepreneurship education and scholarships
· Field Museum – Youth programs, Environmental Leadership Summit and Internship
· Midtown Education Initiative – education opportunities for young women
