Hillary Rodham Clinton, JB Pritzker and Juliana Stratton Hold Roundtable Discussion with High School Women
Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, JB Pritzker and Juliana Stratton recently held a roundtable discussion with high school women about the importance of leadership.
The discussion held at EvolveHer, a women-centric coworking space in Chicago,
marks Clinton’s first campaign event of the 2018 midterm election season.
“In our democracy, where everybody’s voice and vote is supposed to count the same, a leader should be serving people,” said former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“I like the phrase servant leader — you serve, but you’re given leadership responsibilities. Both JB and Juliana bring their own experiences and their talents
and their commitments, and together they want to lead in a way that really gives everybody else the chance to make the most out of your own lives. It’s that combination of motivation, doing what you said you would do, telling the truth, all of that together — JB and Juliana have those qualities.
“I really believe in this idea of being a servant leader,” said JB Pritzker. “But in order to be a good servant, you have to be a good listener. A good servant leader is someone who listens and is someone who is willing to jump in and help. But you can’t help if you don’t listen. Ultimately leadership is about helping. To be a good leader you’ve got to be a good servant. To be a good servant you’ve got to be a good leader.”
“In the different roles that I’ve had, as state representative and running for lieutenant governor, I’ve seen that the wisdom is in the room,” said Juliana Stratton. “You have the creativity, you have the ideas, you have the solutions for our
state — They’re found right here, in rooms just like this. All we need to do is listen. We need to lift up your voices. We need to come together as a party and as a state and move forward.”
