Planned Parenthood Opens New Flossmoor Facility

Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) opened their seventeenth facility in Flossmoor on Jan. 11.
The new health center, located at 19831 Governors Highway, will provide a number of services to the 1,200 patients, living in southern Cook County, who have been traveling to other Planned Parenthood locations to receive care.
“When we were doing a needs assessment of where to put a new health center we found that there were about 1,200 existing PPIL patients living in southern Cook County,” said Julie Lynn, manager of external affairs for PPIL. “As a way to help those patients out and not make them travel to our other locations, I think the closest was Aurora, we decided to put a health center in Floosmoor.”
The health center provides a number of services including birth control, HIV testing, LGBT services, men’s health care, emergency contraception, abortion
services, pregnancy testing and services, STD testing, treatment and vaccines, and women’s healthcare.
“People shouldn't have to travel to get the care that they need whether that care is abortion services, birth control, STD testing, prep for HIV prevention,
transgender hormone therapy or any of the other services we provide we want to be able to see all of the patients who need our services and provide that quality healthcare for them,” said Lynn.
Planned Parenthood utilized a Community Healthcare Advocacy Committee(
CHAC) while deciding where the new health center should go, according to
Lynn. The CHAC is a group of roughly twenty community members from various backgrounds and professions who organized to help PPIL learn more about the need of the community.
“So far it seems like the community is happy that we are there. We have the
CHAC, and all of them were thrilled that we were going to be opening a new health center there,” said Lynn.
