“Now is the time to modernize the courses and revitalize our community aesthetically and economically.”
The Jackson Park Golf Association (JPGA) would like to thank Beau Welling, Senior Design Consultant, and all of Tiger Woods’ TGR Design team for listening to and positively acting upon our suggestions for the restoration of the South Shore and Jackson Park Golf Courses.
We can honestly say “THEY GOT IT RIGHT THIS TIME”! Notably, the ability for 9-hole leagues or clubs to return to the clubhouse after nine; the proposed location of the new clubhouse which merges the interests of golfer and non-golfer to produce a functional space for fellowship; and Chicago Park District’s pledge to keep green fees free for junior golfers and daily rates below $50 for Chicago residents.
JPGA continues to support the restoration of the century-old South Side golf courses because now is the time to modernize the courses and revitalize our community aesthetically and economically. We believe the design will facilitate our mission of: establishing a golf exhibition which celebrates the contributions African Americans have made to the game of golf; establish a scholastic center and year-round golf academy to introduce and engage youth in STEM projects and golf; and lastly, design a Youth-to-Tour Program™ to develop more competitive African American golfers into the future by providing youth development through training and mentoring programs.
The designers have listened to the community. Hopefully, the impact of this restoration will last well into the next century.
