SUMMER FUN CONTINUES AT THE DuSABLE MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY WITH MOVIES AND MUSIC UNDER THE STARS!

The DuSable Museum of African American History continues it’s crowd-pleasing “summer celebration” of movies and music under the stars. The entertainment happens through August 23, 2018 with all events taking place at the Museum, located at 740 East 56th Place (57th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue) in Chicago…and best of all, admission is FREE! Members, friends and families are invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets, to experience “Movies In The Park” or the “Sounds of History” Jazz Series. All of the films and musical performances are presented under the stars in the beautiful outdoor gardens of the DuSable Museum. (In the event of rain or inclement weather all activities and programs will be moved inside the Museum). In addition, for those unable to prepare a picnic basket or bring their own refreshments, there will be food and beverage service available for a nominal cost at each of the events. In addition, The DuSable will continue the summer fun by presenting a classic film during the 2018 “Films On The Lake Festival” which will take place at the Museum on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 7:00 PM. “Films on the Lake” is a free outdoor French film festival produced annually in Chicago parks by the Cultural Service at the Consulate General of France in Chicago as part of the Chicago Park District’s “Movies In The Park.” “We are pleased to once again present three of Chicago’s favorite summertime activities: the DuSable Museum ‘Sounds of History’ Jazz Festival and ‘Movies In The Park,’ in addition to being a part of the ‘Films On The Lake Festival’ said Perri Irmer, DuSable Museum President and CEO. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy some of the best in music and film with family and friends, and also visit the museum to see our exciting new exhibit Clearing a Path for Democracy: Citizen Soldiers of the Fighting Eighth in World War I, in addition to the powerful Freedom, Resistance and the Journey Toward Equality,” and the ever popular A Slow Walk To Greatness: The Harold Washington Story.” “Movies In The Park”:

“Movies On The Lake” Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 7:00 PM Elevator to the Gallows (Ascenseur pour l’echafaud) Film in French with English subtitles Taking place over the course of one restless Paris night, Louis Malle’s richly atmospheric 1958 crime thriller stars Jeanne Moreau and Maurice Ronet as lovers whose plan to murder her husband (his boss) goes awry, setting off a chain of events that seals their fate. Miles Davis’ pioneering jazz score is rightly famous, capturing the film’s exhilarating, recklessness and mournful moods of this early entry to the French New Wave movement. Movies On The Lake will begin with a special concert by LoLo Irving – “The Woman with the Horn” at 7:00 PM followed by the film screening at 8:00 PM. No alcohol allowed.
