Weekly Fulton Market Expo Launches In Historic District

On Saturday, April 7, 2018, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will officially mark the launch of Fulton Market Expo (FMX) at 1:30 pm at the corner of Fulton Market and Green Street. Every Saturday between the months of May through October, FMX will be held on Fulton Market between Peoria and Green Streets from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The block, first constructed in 1887 as the historical Fulton Street Wholesale Market, will once again be the home of a bustling exhibition.

The West Loop Community Organization (WLCO), a delegate agency of the City of Chicago, is proud to announce FMX, an annual celebration of makers, farmers, artists and small businesses. Starting at 2:00 pm, immediately following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a local Fulton Market fashion designer, Borris Powell, will debut his Fall/Winter 2018 collection entitled “sideS of mE,” held in the WeWork parking lot at 220 North Peoria Street.

“With the growth and resurgence of the businesses along Fulton Market, it is very important we recognize and payhomage to the history of this

district” says Carla Agostinelli, Executive Director of the West Loop

Community Organization. “It not only is our responsibility to celebrate the history of the district, but to also encourage the makers and small businesses to join us in the creation of the newest chapter of Fulton Market’s history.”

“FMX is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to support

the thriving creative industries from Chicago’s small businesses,”

says City of Chicago Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP)

Commissioner Rosa Escareno.

“BACP is proud to support and assist the West Loop as they provide a

platform for makers and farmers to start and grow their businesses.” Since April is Autism Awareness Month, all proceeds from the fashion show will be donated to Esperanza Community Services, (ecs) a non-profit supporting children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities; ecs helps the developmentally disabled build skills and confidence to become as

independent as possible. Several students and participants of ecs will

be a part of the fashion show.

“I think the Fulton Market Expo is long overdue, and I’m very excited

for the West Loop community.

I commend everyone who helped bring this event together,” says Alderman Walter Burnett of the 27th Ward.

“We are very proud to be a partner in the revitalization of one of the most historical markets in the nation’s history: Fulton Market,” says Scott Maesel, President of WLCO’s Board of Directors. “FMX will not only support economic development in the neighborhood, but it will also serve as a tool that will strengthen the community, encouraging everyone to walk the West Loop and shop local.”

The West Loop Community Organization is a 501(c)(3) membership organization that represents hundreds of businesses, dozens of local non-profits, and the various residential communities within the West Loop. For more information, visit the WLCO website.
