Thornton Fractional School District 215 and Thornton Township Work Together To Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Thornton Fractional North High School not only gave thanks to its Senior high school students, but also showed unity with Thornton Township in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Both the boys football team and the girls volleyball team participated in the Pink Out Events by wearing pink to support those that have been afflicted with the deadly disease. For the football team, some Seniors it was their last game playing for Thornton Fractional North. At the beginning of the games, Thornton Fractional North held a moment of silence for all that have been affected by breast cancer. The students wore pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Thornton Township President Frank Zuccarelli and the Board of Trustees support various high school and youth organizations such as School District 215. Thornton Township distributed poster boards and pink headbands at the games.

Athletic Director for Thornton Fractional North Omari Garrett said, “As a person that lost a grandmother to breast cancer; also my mother was afflicted with the deadly disease. I truly understand the impact that this disease has on families.”

Garrett further stated, “I’m glad that there has been a month dedicated to the purpose of bringing awareness so that we can reduce the amount of deaths associated with breast cancer due to early diagnosis.”

Thornton Township Public and Community Relations Manager Ernst Lamothe stated, “This is the second year we are partnering with a school district to bring a Pink Out Event to the area.” Lamothe further stated, “We at Thornton Township understand that breast cancer is an important issue and we want to keep it in the forefront.”

Also the girls volleyball team participated in the Pink Out Event. Thornton Fractional North girls volleyball team played against Rich Central.
