ROZ VARON, ABC7/CHICAGO’S
AWARD-WINNING TRAFFIC REPORTER
TO DISCUSS HER FIRST BOOK AT THE DUSABLE MUSEUM
The DuSable Museum of African American History is pleased to welcome, ABC7 Chicago’s Emmy Award-winning Traffic Reporter Roz Varon, for a very special discussion and signing of her recently published book “On The Road With Roz: Adventures in Travel and Life.” The event will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2017, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Museum, 740 East 56th Place (57th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue) in Chicago. Leading the discussion will be Roz’s friend and fellow Emmy Award winning colleague, Hosea Sanders, ABC7 Chicago Anchor.
For the last eight years, one of Chicago’s most popular and beloved television personalities, Roz Varon has been recording her travels in words and images. “On The Road With Roz,” is designed to be a keepsake for those readers who enjoy vicarious adventures, and for those who seek ideas for their own trips across the United States and overseas. Written with honesty, enthusiasm, and a grateful sense of wonder, Varon and her family enlighten her audience with little known facts, humorous anecdotes, and heartwarming insights into her personal life. We are Roz’s awestruck travel companions at the Inauguration of President Barack Obama, students of history while roaming the Jewish Deep South, and glee filled visitors to Walt Disney World…which happens to be Varon’s “happiest place on earth.”
As we venture to other continents, we visit sacred places in Israel, joyous sites in Ireland, and legendary landmarks in the United Kingdom. Roz also delights in her tales of traveling the famous Route 66, a treasured Americana road trip that will surely have readers packing their maps and bags for their very own legendary “road trip.”
While all appears sunny and carefree in the book, we also learn that Varon is a more than 10-year metastatic Breast Cancer survivor. This medical fact adds poignancy, courage, and inspiration for all those whose lives have been touched by the illness.
Emmy Award-winning Traffic/Transportation Anchor Roz Varon was the first TV traffic anchor in the country to bring rush hour traffic reporting to the morning news. She joined ABC7 News as Morning Traffic Anchor in April 1989 and is currently the station’s Traffic/Transportation Anchor for the top-rated ABC7 News This Morning. She not only updates Chicagoans on traffic snarls and travel times, but provides extensive coverage of the transportation beat.
Varon is also a 2006 breast cancer survivor and works diligently to help heighten cancer prevention and awareness and is an in-demand motivational speaker. As an advocate, she works with the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.”
Hosea Sanders plays a major role at ABC 7, both in the news and programming areas. For ABC 7 Eyewitness News, he anchors the first primetime newscast in Chicago each weeknight, ABC 7’s 7 pm newcast broadcast on WCIU, provides regular reports for evening newscasts on issues important to Chicago neighborhoods, and covers key disability related stories. On the programming side, Sanders hosts ABC 7’s Emmy Award-winning series, Heart & Soul, and he also co-hosts ABC 7’s popular New Year’s Eve special, Countdown Chicago, and ABC 7’s Bud Billiken Parade specials.
Sanders has won 12 Emmy Awards, gaining honors for live coverage, spot news, entertainment reporting, news writing, programming and overall news achievement.
