Students Use Art to Fight for Social Justice
SANTA FE, N.M. - Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) students are using their art to fight for social justice. Color: A Painting Exhibition Against Hate features a group of young diverse college students from SFUAD who are using their art to fight for social justice. All profits from this show will be donated to Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF).
Opening night was on Saturday, March 18, from 4 -7 p.m. at the ART.i.factory in Art.i.Fact on 930 Baca St. in Santa Fe. The exhibition shows through March 28, with gallery hours Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Entry is free to everyone, and artwork prices will range from $75 to $300. Donations will also be accepted.
This exhibition was inspired by SFUAD contributing faculty member Sarah Stolar’s oil painting class studio course, Color and Technique. This course allows students to explore all forms of color as a guide for self-expression, including using painting as a cathartic experience of the current social climate. The
exhibition displays pieces with variation with color, which includes (but not
limited too): vibrancy of colors, natural colors, signal color, and color expression in black and white.
